Turn Your Lighs Out TONIGHT!

Earth Hour is 8:30pm to 9:30pm tonight. Turn out your non-essential lights, especially outside to increase awareness of energy use and its impacts.

Saturday, March 23, has been designated Earth Hour. From 8:30pm to 9:30pm residents and businesses are asked to observe one hour of reduced electricity use for lights. Earth Hour began in 2007 when 2.2 million residents of Sydney, Australia participated by turning off all non-essential lights. The event went global as a way for homes and businesses to raise awareness of the amount of energy we use. Earth Hour 2013 takes place on March 23, 2013 from 8:30p.m. to 9:30p.m., around the globe at each participant's local time.

Please take an hour this evening, turn out your outside lights and any non-essential lights inside. Post a photo of your home before and during Earth Hour here on Patch or on Facebook. Share the fun with friends and family. Last year, northern Illinois reduced their power demand 5% during Earth Hour. Imagine what would happen if more people participate!

Don’t let the energy savings stop at 9:30pm tonight. Continue making an impact. Contact Energy Impact Illinois to learn how you can receive a FREE home energy assessment and save 70% (up to $1750) on energy efficiency improvements through a grant program funded by the US Department of Energy and local utilities.  Make your home as comfortable, affordable, safe, and energy efficient as it can be even when the lights are on!
