GR2012 Today - Saturday, May 19 at JJC

Recycle nearly everything and stay for an informative fun fair with something for everyone!

New Lenox’s ever-growing September Sharefest has inspired an expanded one-day Recycling/Reuse Collection Event that involves a variety of organizations dedicated to serving our communities.  Last year, Sharefest included electronic recycling, textile reuse and recycling through Goodwill and foam plastic recycling through Dart. This year’s Celebrating Sustainability GR2012 includes these options, and more.  A Plainfield school is accepting cookie wrappers and the plastic trays that hold the treats, a medical equipment collection through a non-profit will reuse walkers, wheelchairs, canes, crutches and accept donations of bandages, gauze and more. Scrap metal will be accepted along with jewelry for a repurpose JJC program.

All this will be accompanied by a Household Hazardous Waste Collection, the last one-day event this Spring.  So take this opportunity to clean out the house, the garage, and the shed.  Televisions, telephones, motor oil, antifreeze, expired pool chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, unwanted hangers, metal frames from old trampolines, clothes, lamps, blankets, toys, and nearly everything else.

All this will be offered from 8am-3pm at Joliet Junior College’s main campus, off Houbolt Road in Joliet.  After dropping off all the items, park the car and stop in for a film, a live reptile show, the petting zoo or climbing wall. Sit in one or more of the 18 presentations or pick up some information from one of the 70 exhibitors. Walk through the efficient fuel car show. Enjoy some live music on the lawn and end the day with a community picnic from 5pm-7pm.
