New Lenox Fire Protection District Foundation to Host Beef Cook-Off Competition

(JULY 3, 2013) – The New Lenox Fire Protection District Foundation will be hosting the Second Annual “Controlled Burn” Cook-Off. The beef cook-off event will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2013 in conjunction with “Proud American Days” at the new location just east of the Wal-Mart store on Route 30 in New Lenox.

 

The cook-off participants will each be given a 13 lb. roast furnished by the New Lenox Fire Protection District (NLFPD) Foundation on the day of the event. Cooking will begin at 6:30 a.m., with judging taking place by celebrity judges at 10:30 a.m. When the judging has commenced, the remaining beef will be sliced for sandwiches and sold to the public by the NLFPD Foundation.

Celebrity judges will include Judy Neimann of Dunn & Neimann Real Estate, Elizabeth Schwenke of Presence Saint Joseph Medical Center, Nick Reiher of Farmers Weekly Review, Kathy Conolly from The Irish Pig BBQ, Ken Vicich from CP Meat Market, and New Lenox Mayor Tim Baldermann.

Businesses and organizations interested in sponsoring the event or a cooking space should contact Sandra DeLair, NLFPD Foundation Director, by calling (815) 462-0023 for an application, rules and regulations. Cooking spaces are limited and on a first come, first served basis. After all spaces are filled, registrants will be placed on a waiting list. All registration packets must be turned in by July 12, 2013.

 

All proceeds from the “Controlled Burn” cook-off will go toward the Foundation’s “Save a Life Program,” which purchases needed equipment for the New Lenox Fire Protection District in aiding the community’s residents in their time of need.
