The annual St. Baldrick's event is this Friday, and New Lenox Patch editor Michael Sewall is getting his head shaved. Help him reach his fundraising goal for cancer research by donating today!

My hair has gotten pretty long in the last few weeks, but this Friday I'm hoping that changes. But I'll need your help to make it happen.

I'm participating in the annual St. Baldrick's event March 23 at in New Lenox. At 4:30 p.m., I'm getting my head shaved to stand in solidarity with children who have cancer and to raise money for cancer research.

The event is organized by members of the , and various teams will participate, including the and the Community Emergency Response Team.

Collectively, the teams at the local event hope to raise $60,000.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation grew out of a cancer benefit a group of friends put together in 2000 in New York. Since then, the foundation has collected more than $95 million total throughout the years to fund research for childhood cancer and its survivors.
