Meet the Guest Editor of New Lenox Patch

New Lenox resident Ann Piasecki will keep a watch on the New Lenox Patch site until further notice.

Editor's note: I'm pleased to introduce Ann Piasecki as the New Lenox Patch guest editor, taking the place of outgoing local editor Michael Sewall in the interim.

Since New Lenox Patch was launched two years ago under the enthusiastic leadership of editor Michael Sewall, the community of New Lenox has embraced the uniquely engaging way to gather, convey and reflect upon news and features.

For one thing this hyper-local approach acts like a zoom lens spotlighting the intricacies of a community that is primarily proud of its patriotic heritage—think about the upcoming Proud American Days celebration, July 26-29.

This community is zealous about its careful and considerate response to those in need—think about the upcoming ShareFest 2012, Sept. 1-11, in which a group of inspired volunteers spread out to assist those whose obstacles—financially or physically—move them to reach out for help in trimming trees, painting houses, fixing cars and on-and-on.

I could continue to elaborate on the spirit of this southwest suburban, home-rule community that boasts of easy access to Chicago and the suburbs via its proximity to Interstate 80 and Illinois 355 along with two Metra train stations.

I could reflect on genuine conversations among friends, family and business owners that take place daily over coffee at long-standing, family-owned restaurants and convenience stores or within the confines of contemporary-decked,  cell-phone buzzing gathering hubs.

I could mention the personal and professional investment that this community has offered up to its public and private schools as well at its many and varied houses of worship.

I could wax eloquently about the effort on the part of the New Lenox Chamber of Commerce and its membership, the owners of small and large businesses, in the community. I might note the strides on behalf of the community made by the municipal staff, including Mayor Tim Baldermann, New Lenox Police Department and the New Lenox Fire Protection District along with the administrators of the New Lenox Library or the New Lenox Park District.

As a home owner and parent, I have lived in this community for 20 years. I have been active in supporting in one way or another each of the above named entities.

Therefore, I am delighted to be serving in the role of guest editor for New Lenox Patch. I look forward to employing my extensive background in journalism—reporter, photojournalist, editor, executive managing editor—as well as within the broader role of communications and marketing.

I also serve in the role of Communications Director for New Lenox's Wild West Online Productions, and I am the owner of New Lenox-based . In other words, I'm a writer who has spent her life telling the stories that make each of you unique.

My goal per New Lenox Patch is to professionally reflect the flavor of New Lenox, while welcoming the community's online participation. I'll see you around.
