Celtics end regular season with win

For the final regular season match of the season, the lady Celtics hosted Illiana Christian on Senior Night Wednesday and it took another come-back effort from Mary Beth Galick and Lizzie Eggen at second doubles to get the 3-2 win for Providence.  The team finished the regular season with an overall record of 19-6, and 5-4 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

Eggen and Galick lost their first set 6-1 and were down in the second set 4-1. They roared back to tie up the second set and sent it to a tiebreaker, which they won 10-4.  This came after Hannah Davis had already won at first singles, 6-0, 6-0 and Maggie and Kelly Ruane won at first doubles 6-1, 6-0.  So it was a must win again for Galick and Eggen, who delivered in the clutch once again. This follows their weekend heroics coming back against both Marist and Lincoln Way East to win the tiebreakers and give the Celtics a third-place finish in the 28-team Lockport Invitational.

The Ruane twins finish the regular season at first doubles with a 33-4 overall record and 8-1 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.  The ESCC Tournament begins Friday.
