Authors Who Write in Bulk

I may have an addiction to reading authors who've written a lot of books.

Hi, my name is Jenn, and I am addicted to authors who've written more than 5 books.

This is where you all say, "Hi Jenn!" because you know my pain, don't you?

Recently, this librarian came to the realization that some of my favorite authors are ones who write a TON of books.  Some are series that follow the same characters (like the Harry Potter), but some just have a lot of stuff to write about, so they publish books really, really frequently.

Many people will believe that when an author publishes a lot of titles that this means he's just trying to make money...how could anything be good that's churned out so quickly!? How could one author make so many different storylines work? But, just like a carpenter can build awesome walls in a house because he's GOOD at it, there are some authors who are just GOOD at writing and practice their skills without hesitation.

I think my addiction has to do with the thrill of the hunt—and yes, picking up the next book by your favorite author should totally fall into that category.  Usually, it starts with a little blurb on Twitter...a release date mentioned, a character's name revealed...these authors have me hooked!  Like a kid following a breadcrumb trail, I browse the blogs, I relentlessly check the Twitterverse for the next morsel of information...I mark release dates on my calendar in red ink. I've just GOTTA HAVE IT!  I may have even gotten a hot tip once about the release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and run through a grocery store at 12am.

This fact hasn't been proven...but it's greatly rumored! : )

As a librarian, I get to try many different types of material, but like a new Radiohead album coming out, there are some authors I will just HAVE to read.  Here are a few of my favorites that you might want to check out, too.

Libba Bray: I will always get my hands on your snarky, witty, strong-female character driven books.  Beauty Queens made me laugh out loud more than any other book I've read...YET.  I'm guessing her next one will do the same.

Sarah Dessen: Your characters are real enough and kept my attention from That Summer right up until Whatever Happened to Goodbye.

Pete Hautman:  This author always has crazy concepts—Godless has kids worshipping a water tower just to see what happens...How to Steal A Car is about a 15 year old car thief.

Chris Crutcher: This is an author who loves sports and isn't afraid to show it (like me—GO BEARS!). Whale Talk pushes boundaries that high schoolers set for themselves and Staying Fat for Sarah Byrnes deals with wanting to help someone but not wanting to lose yourself in the process.

If you find yourself in the same situation...let me enable you. has the book to feed your need to read. Stop by and see what we've got!
