New Lenox Police Department Serving as Drop-Off Point For Tornado Relief

The New Lenox Police Department is available as a drop-off location for items needed by Diamond and Coal City tornado victims.

From the New Lenox Police Department:

The Coal City Fire Department has confirmed that 221 homes in the Diamond and Coal City area were impacted by Sunday's tornado. As a result of the devastation, residents are in need of basic items that were lost or destroyed.

The New Lenox Police Department is available as a drop-off location for items needed by Diamond and Coal City tornado victims. Items may be dropped-off from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. Donated items will be driven to Coal City and placed in the hands of those in need. As of Monday, the following is a list of needed items:

  • Bags of chips
  • Bottled water
  • Rubbermaid totes
  • Cardboard boxes
  • Scissors
  • Files with closeable tops for documents
  • Toys
  • Large garbage bags
  • Toiletries
  • Work gloves
  • Bleach
  • Buckets
  • Sponges
  • Mops
  • Towels
  • Baby formula
  • Infant care items
  • Diapers
  • Bedding
  • Flashlights
  • Batteries
  • Manual can openers

For those that wish to make a monetary donation, the following options are available:

A Tornado relief fund has been set up by the Village of Diamond at Mazon State Bank. Checks can be made payable to Diamond and Coal City Tornado Disaster Relief Fund. Please make donations there or mail donations to:

As part of the United Way of Grundy County's disaster relief and COAD, monetary donations can be sent to assist with the tornado relief efforts through their website at www.UWGrundy.org. Click the "Give Now" button on the top right side of the page. Please specify "Grundy County Tornado Relief" in the "Focus Area" as these funds will be designated specifically for that use.
