New Lenox Library Taking Food For Fines

New Lenox Library book-borrowing scofflaws can get off the hook with a food donation.

It can be kind of embarrassing when you realize a little too late that you should have returned those library books.

But the New Lenox Library is giving you a chance to get off the hook with a food donation.

"Each year, the library offers cardholders a chance to wipe the slate clean with Food for Fines," according to a statement released by the library. "Food for Fines is a program that helps the New Lenox Township Food Pantry stock its shelves."

The reprieve runs from Feb. 10 to 15. For just one nonperishable food item, the library will waive up to $15 in late fees.

"The library asks that no expired food be brought in," the statement said. "Food items may not be used for lost or damaged materials."
