From the Village of Frankfort:
Cold winter weather provided the perfect setting Thursday for the Village of Frankfort’s annual tree lighting ceremony.
Over 500 gathered on Breidert Green to celebrate the annual event and welcome the holiday season. Mayor Jim Holland welcomed the crowd to the festivities. Trustees Cindy Heath, Todd Morgan, and Mike Stevens, along with Village Clerk Keith Ogle introduced the activities and joined in the festivities.
The Hickory Creek Middle School Chorus, directed by Leslie Walton and singers from Lincoln Way East High School performed holiday musical numbers to the delight of the crowd.
With thousands of lights glistening on Breidert Green, Santa and Mrs. Claus arrived aboard a Frankfort fire truck to make their way through the huge crowd to visit with youngsters eagerly awaiting their arrival. The Lincoln Way East “Interact” volunteer club served hot chocolate and cookies.
“The magic of the holiday season comes to downtown Frankfort with the annual tree lighting ceremony," said Mayor Jim Holland. "It is a great event for the entire family to enjoy. We invite everyone to visit our downtown district to appreciate the holiday lights, and also enjoy the fine dining and shopping throughout our community during the entire holiday season.”
