Community Judges Needed for Speech/Debate Tournament
On March 3-5 several hundred
homeschool high school students will gather at the University of St.
Francis, Joliet, Illinois, for an exciting three day speech and debate
tournament. Sponsored by the National Christian Forensics and
Communication Association, the Illinois tournament is one of four 2014
competitions in which homeschool teens from Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio,
Kentucky, Michigan, and Indiana qualify for the regional invitational. Students
compete in eleven different speech events and two styles of debate events.
We are faced with the monumental task of finding over 700 judges to
evaluate our competitors. We need you! It's a 2 1/2 to 3-hour time
commitment, which includes arriving at the hospitality room (where we will
feed you delicious meals and refreshments), a short orientation, the 1 1/2 hour
round, and filling out a ballot in the hospitality room afterwards.
To see the exact times we need judges, go to http://www.ncfca.org/, click on
"Judges" at the top, click on Illinois on the map, and select “Best
of the Midwest”. The tournament schedule will pop up after you do that,
and you can select one or more rounds. Note that the times listed are
arrival times. Arriving at those times will give you time for a brief
orientation before the round starts. We have rounds starting in the early
morning and going into the evening. We just ask people to judge one
round, although of course they're welcome to judge more and we have some people
who do! You'll find it very enjoyable.
For
"Referred By" put "Patch".
We use judges from all walks of life and would appreciate your passing the word
to anyone who you think might be interested. Thank you for participating in
training the next generation; your contribution is invaluable!
