NLFD Recieves Knox Box Grant

NLFD recieves grant for Residential Knox Boxes.

Within the last three months, the New Lenox Fire Protection District obtained a grant for residential knox boxes from the Firefighter's Support Foundation. Knox boxes are a heavy duty lock box that business owners and Senior Citizen residents put on the building and/or door of their occupancy for the fire department to gain entry in the event of an emergency. Occupants will put key to the building or home in the box, and then firefighters can open that box with a universal knox box key. The Firefighter's Support Foundation helps finance projects such as this, for fire departments throughout the United States. In the event that the resident or business owner cannot open the door, this residential knox box program is designed to assist the New Lenox Fire District firefighters and paramedics in gaining access to a home in an emergency situation. The New Lenox Fire District has installed 16 residential knox boxes to seniors since our program was put in place. The New Lenox Fire District encourages seniors to apply for a residential knox box if their current medical condition prevents them from answering the door in the event of an emergency. Residential knox box applications are available during normal business hours Monday through Friday and Fire Station #1 located at 261 E. Maple St, New Lenox. If residents have any questions about the program, please call the New lenox Fire District Administrative Offices at 815-463-4500.
