Firefighters Suport Fight for a Cure
NL Fire District wears t-shirts for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
The New Lenox Firefighters are joining the fight for a cure for breast cancer. All Fire District members are wearing t-shirts the whole month of October in support of breast cancer awareness month.
The idea was the brain child of the Fire District’s Captain Chris Ward, who also designed the logo. Many fire department’s have t-shirts that support the awareness but this is the first year New Lenox firefighters are joining the cause.
The fight for the cure is especially important to Captain Ward whose mother had stage three breast cancer and is a survivor. “She has been cancer free for five plus years”, Ward said.

The Fire District will wear the shirts every shift to remind women to reduce their breast cancer risk by scheduling a yearly mammogram, to do self breast exams every month, women should know how their breasts normally look and feel and report any change to their doctor or nurse.
The two most important risk factors for breast cancer are being a woman and growing older. Through early detection and improved treatments, more women than ever are surviving breast cancer.
