Manhattan Irish Fest 2013: L-W Central Seniors are King and Queen

The Manhattan Irish Fest is Friday and Saturday. Bagpipers, Celtic bands and more are part of the community-wide event.

The 19th annual Manhattan Irish Fest kicks off at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The two-day event, presented by the Irish American Society of County Will, has planned a lineup to attract young and old.

The entertainment tent will have live bands, and the Manhattan Park and Recreation Center is hosting a teen dance and more.

This year, the king and queen of the parade, which steps off at 11 a.m. Saturday in downtown Manhattan, are both seniors from Lincoln-Way Central High School. They are: Kaitlyn Siadek and Stephan Beck, both of whom are from Manhattan, said Mike McHugh, communications coordinator for the Irish American Society of County Will.

As is typical, the entertainment tent will be set up and feature live bands and food over the weekend. McHugh added that the traditional Celtic Mass is scheduled for 9 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 275 W. North St.

The bulk of the event's proceeds go to fund the Irish American Society's scholarship fund, added McHugh.
