Sophomore High School Football: Providence Celtics 42, Morgan Park Mustangs 0

The sophomore Providence Celtics blow out Morgan Park Mustangs 42-0 in their opening game of the season.

The Celtics opened up their season last Saturday morning at Bishop Kaffer Stadium against Morgan Park looking to build off their 6-3 record their freshman year.

From the beginning of the game it was clear that Providence came ready to play.  On the Celtics third offensive play of the day Jake Godfrey (#5) connected on a 26-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Brandon Denler (#26).

Godfrey continued to lead the way for the Celtics offense by throwing a total of four touchdowns that afternoon. His passes looked crisp on both short and long completions.

On the defensive side of the ball Providence cornerbacks were able to get two interceptions. The only time that Morgan Park was even close to scoring was on a 78-yard rush on their opening drive that would have been a touchdown if not for a block in the back penalty.

Morgan Park did not help itself out though. The Mustangs had 10 penalties throughout the game that hurt their chances of getting any sort of momentum.

Special teams played a big part in the Celtic’s success as well. Austin Regan (#11) was six for six on extra point field goal attempts. The Celtics were truly clicking on all cylinders.

The Celtics will be in action again Friday night at Minooka High School against the Indians at 5 p.m.
