Celtics Sophs Send Fans Home Happy on Homecoming: Providence Defeats St. Ignatius 27-14

High School Sophomore Football: Providence Celtics 27, St. Ignatius Wolfpack 14

The Providence Celtics football team (7-1) won 27-14 over the St. Ignatius Wolfpack on their homecoming.

Blocking a Pathway Through: Celtic halfbacks Dominic Lagone, Ben Kraslen and David Kaminski had another superb day combining for 247 yards on 23 carries.  However, the offensive line deserves credit for the great game as well.

"Our o-line has done a fantastic job," Lagone said. "The holes I’m running through are about 10 yards wide, so you got to give them a lot of credit."

Shooting Yourself in the Foot: The Celtics committed 14 penalties total throughout the match for a whopping 150 yards. On the Wolfpack’s second touchdown drive alone the Providence defense committed three penalties for 45 yards.

"As a team we cannot lose focus so easy, and play selfish," said Matt Lahey, who committed three penalties himself during the game. "The way we take ourselves out of games is with penalties that can make or break the outcome."

Making Magic Happen: With three seconds left in the first half and the Celtics offense on their own 49-yard line, they needed a miracale to happen to score. Sam Abraham tossed a 9-yard pass to Luc Quaranta. Just as he was about to be tackled Quaranta lateraled the ball to Dominic Lagone and he sprinted down the left side line and into the endzone to make the score 25-6 Providence.

"We never really worked on the hook and ladder that much, but I'm glad we were able to execute it," said Lagone.

Impact Player: Quarterback Sam Abraham completed seven of his 14 passing attempts for 101 yards including a 51-yard touchdown pass.  While his statistics are not amazing, Abraham has most certainly shown signs of improvement week-by-week.

Sending the Fans Home Happy: Every football wants to win, yet especially when their school is cheering them on during homecoming weekend.

Captain David Kaminski explained the significance of winning their homecoming game. "(It's) very important because it sets the tone for us to finish the season with a statement getting a win against Mount Carmel."

What’s Next: Providence travels to Mount Carmel to face off against the Caravan at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 to play the last game of their season.
