Another Game, Another Blowout Win for the Celtics

Sophomore High School Football: Providence Celtics 35, Minooka Indians 7

The biggest mistake the Indians made all night was punting the ball on fourth down.  Celtics punt returners had a 30.5 yard average on the four kicks they attempted to return including a 49 yard scamper to the end zone by Joe Falco.

Providence’s blowout outcome was not clear from of the beginning of the game.  On the Celtics first play from scrimmage #2 Dominic Lagone fumbled the ball on a rushing play up the middle.

After the Celtics made the score 7-0 at the start of the second quarter the Indians answered right back.  Fifteen plays, two successful fourth down conversion attempts, and an eighty-yard drive later Minooka tied the score at 7-7 going into halftime.

The Celtics coaches must have given a terrific motivational speech at halftime because the players came out ready to play in the third quarter. Led by rushing touchdowns from Joe Falco and Ben Kraslen, the Celtic offense scored 21 unanswered points in dominant fashion.

Quarterback Jake Godfrey did not have the most accurate game Friday night, but he made the passes he did complete count in a major way. Godfrey was 4 for 9 (44%) throwing two touchdowns and a whopping 114 yards.

The defensive stars of the game were Noah Cralle, who had one interception and one tackle for loss, and David Bell, with one sack and one batted pass from the line of scrimmage.

Next up for the 2-0 Celtics is their first Friday night home game of the season against the visiting St. Laurence Vikings at 5pm.
