Who Has the Best Food: Frankfort, Mokena or New Lenox?

Through 18 weeks of Chowdown Showdown, we enter summer surprisingly even.

Every Sunday, we give you a twist on the traditional restaurant review (with prizes included!). takes one food and decides who among three restaurants, one each in Frankfort, Mokena and New Lenox, has the best of that dish.

The column has developed over time. It started just in New Lenox. But 18 weeks ago, we expanded it to the three Lincoln-Way Patch towns, and more recently just for reading the article.

So as we enter summer, I was curious which town had pulled ahead to claim the ongoing title of Best Food in the Area. Turns out, at least according to our reviews, that we're dead even. 6-6-6.

Of course, it depends on the foods and drinks we've tried in each town. And we're only hitting one restaurant at a time for each town; there could surely be another place in town that serves up a better dish.

So that's where you come in. Check out our Patch Places business directories and leave reviews. Tell us what you ate at a certain restaurant and whether it was any good. And every week, read Chowdown Showdown, comment on the article and you could win a $50 gift card.

And the winners are...

If you want meat or dessert, head over to Frankfort. It won the showdowns for carrot cake, tiramisu, steak, tuna salad, burgers and omelettes.

If you want to have a drink and snack on chips, Mokena has you covered. It won in the salsa, margarita, sundae, pancakes, martini and nachos categories.

And if you can't make up your mind, maybe New Lenox has something you'll like. It won for best frozen coffee, pulled pork, mac n cheese, soup, calamari and fettucini alfredo.
