VIDEO: Chicago Dough is Readers' Most-Loved Pizza

In Patch's Pizza Playoffs, readers chose Chicago Dough Company as the most-loved pizza restaurant in New Lenox. Now, our representative will face off against seven other south suburban pizza joints.

Patch readers have spoken, and backers of  have prevailed in New Lenox.

In the first round of our Pizza Playoffs last week, —a testament to great pizza and a strong online presence. Owner Gina Waters said she was promoting the contest nonstop in the restaurant and on Chicago Dough's Facebook page.

Here's a sample of what readers said about Chicago Dough:

  • Best buffet ever!
  • We used to get it when it was only in Richton Park. So glad they opened in New Lenox. Best veggie pizza with all fresh ingredients.
  • NOBODY has ingredients as fresh, and if you dispute that then you probably haven't been there YET!
  • They have such a great variety. They have your standards but also unique pies.

Now, our New Lenox representative will face the winners in seven other Patch communities throughout the south suburbs. Voting will begin this Thursday, Feb. 9, so make sure to check back to vote early and often! Here are the representatives Chicago Dough will be up against:

  • in Palos Heights
  • in Chicago Heights
  • in Evergreen Park
  • in Homewood
  • in Orland Park
  • in Tinley Park
  • A winner from Frankfort/Mokena will be determined this week.

You gotta be kidding me? Chicago Dough Company is horrible pizza. They have a cheap buffet, but not a good quality pizza. This is probably the worst result from a voting process I have ever seen since G.W. Bush was elected president. Very sad. I cannot express how upsetting this makes me to be a part of a cimmuinity

That doesn't know good pizza.

Well Congrats to them...to be honest though...I don't see it.

I know why they won.....the online voting system allowed people to vote as many times as they wanted. So basically the person who has the most time on their hands Wins! Poor handling Patch.

@Chuckster, voting multiple times in an online poll isn't necessarily a bad thing. The intensity of how much a fan likes pizza is important to consider, too. I've seen a lot of polls we've done before that have been obvious that people are voting over and over, and that didn't seem to be the case in this poll because there were only about 600 votes (as compared to some Athlete of the Week polls that get 10,000-20,000 votes). I do know that Chicago Dough promoted the heck out of the poll on its Facebook page and in the restaurant with fliers, telling every person to come through the doors to go vote. So perhaps winning is a testament to the marketing done on their end. If the point was for people to get talking about their favorite pizza in town, then I'd have to say it was handled well. Thanks for reading.

Used to eat at the Chicago Dough in Richton Park as a kid. Was very excited when it opened in New Lenox. The first few times we ate there, I actually loved the pizza. The last time I had it, back in summer of 2010, it was awful. I was horrendously surprised at how bland the sauce was. It tasted like ketchup. I would give it another chance, but I haven't been eager to go back. My wife had the pizza about a year ago, and while she is not picky when it comes to food, she said the same thing -- very bland. Disappointing because I like the atmosphere there. With 64% vote by other people in New Lenox, I'd like to think that my one bad experience there and my wife's bad experience were just flukes? Little Joe's in New Lenox had very good pizza, but they are not consistent. It's about 50/50... sometimes I go and the pizza is just OK. I've liked Pizza Mia so far, except on one occurrence... the Friday a few weeks bag with the snow.

Chuckster, so you don't like their pizza and they won so they must have cheated. Hmm... we bit arrogant are we. Face the facts. They promoted the vote well and their customers like their food so much they voted for it. Look at the comments to the vote. Chicago Dough by far had the most people commenting on how good the food was.

I'm glad to hear that you would consider giving us a second chance. We would really like to see you back! I think overall our consistency is very good, and am disappointed by the two poor experiences you have had. I encourage all of our customers to call us and let us know when there is a problem, so that we can correct any mistakes right away. We would like to see you again, and hope you come back!

I am curious to know how many more weeks the pizza wars will go on. In economic times like these I am glad to know that some people still have money to waste on bread dough, sauce and cheese. It costs about 4 bucks to build a pizza and then they sell it to you for 25. How does that taste?
MypalHank February 07, 2012 at 11:53 PM
You guys are not getting it. Try the Fantastic Buffet!
DaveC February 07, 2012 at 11:54 PM
@BRW...rent, equipment, labor, product cost, water, and electric. Exactly how does it cost any real pizza shop in New Lenox $4 make a pizza they sell for $25.

Chuckster is right. This was not a contest it was a who can sit on the internet and hit a button the most . And Michael I get that you have to toe the company line on this but you need to stop defending the voting system-it's embarassing. Do you do the Patch athelete of the week like that? I don't have anything against Chicago pizza dough but anyone who thinks this contest was anything but a joke is not dealing with reality.
Darin Johnson February 08, 2012 at 07:22 AM
Wow I just checked and you can vote as much as you want for athlete of the week. I will just say anything that requires a vote on Patch really means nothing. I still like the stories, but I sure would not want to be an owner or a student athlete that has to repeat vote to try and win a contest. Since you said you know that happens with the athlete of the week Michael do you ever think it will get fixed? Do you really believe it's the best way to do the voting?

Chicago Dough is good pizza. The employees are friendly and the restaurant is clean. Many internet contests are run the way this poll was run. Haven't you seen any contests on the net? It goes by who can bring the most votes in and yes a lot of these contests allow multiple voting. Chicago Dough did promote the contest well. We ordered a pizza this past weekend and there was a paper with the contest information on it.

your right I am sure it was perfectly fair. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
