This week, local editors Joe Vince (Frankfort), Michael Sewall (New Lenox) and Paul Dailing (Mokena) tried chicken pot pie at restaurants in their respective Patch towns.

C.P. Meat Market, New Lenox (4.5 of 5 stars)

The good: For $5, this is a steal. The crust is flaky and the chicken is giant chunks of tender white meat. No, C.P. Meats isn't a restaurant, but if you don't like it, go to KFC. C.P. Meats also offers a "pizza pot pie," which I have waiting for me in my freezer.

The bad: Failing to find a restaurant to make one for me, I had to wait an hour to dig in. Besides that, my only complaint for this tasty dish was that the veggies weren't that prominent. I could only make out a few peas and a couple small bits of carrot.

Tommy Nevin's Pub, Frankfort (3.5 of 5 stars)

The good: The pot pie had a rich, flavorful gravy that was piping hot, and it was filled with tender chunks of chicken. It didn't have a lot of vegetables, but the ones that were there were good and surprising, like parsnip.

The bad: It wasn't a pie in the traditional sense. It was a bowl of filling with phyllo dough over the top. It was good, but you expect more of a crust with a pot pie.

Stoney Point Grill, Mokena (4 of 5 stars)

The good: Deeeeeelicious. Thick filling, tasty chicken and all-around yum. Very nice atmosphere, too. I'm not a gambler, but the horse races on the TVs (Stoney Point has an OTB) were a nice change if you're not all that into football.

The bad: Like Tommy Nevin's, Stoney Point opted for a pastry puff sitting on the filling. Tasty, but not a pie (imagine doing that with a bowl of cherry filling at Thanksgiving). Also, I wasn't given a spoon, so once the "crust" was gone to sop up the filling, it was like trying to eat chowder with a fork and knife.
