Country Charm, New Lenox (4 of 5 stars)

The good: The sausage gravy was absolutely delicious, and there was a lot of it. The flavor of the small but unintrusive chunks of sausage stole the show on this plate.

The bad: The biscuits were quite small, though I had the half-order ($4.19). Still, I'd prefer larger biscuits that were a bit flakier. I'd give the biscuits a 2.5 of 5 and the gravy a 5 of 5.

Lumes Pancake House, Frankfort (4 of 5 stars)

The good: The gravy served at Lumes is smooth and creamy with just enough bite to it. I actually started spooning it up straight off the plate without any biscuits it was that good. And speaking of the biscuits, most of them were fluffy and fresh.

The bad: Remember how I said most of the biscuits were good? Of the four that the dish came with, one of them was tough and chewy, which really stood out considering how flakey the rest of them were.

Chef Klaus Country Cooking, Mokena (4.5 of 5 stars)

The good: Good gravy (and I mean that authentically), plus huge biscuits. I was full within minutes of eating this, but kept going because it tasted so good.

The bad: Did I mention the biscuits were huge? Because they were huge. I had the quarter-order, which meant two halves of a giant biscuit. I can't imagine trying to finish a half-order or a full one.
