Silver Cross Hospital Corrects FDA Error: No Meningitis-Tainted Pharmaceuticals

Silver Cross Hospital has not purchased tainted medications, said Tracy Simons, marketing and communications director.

There is an article in today’s (Oct. 23, 2012) Herald News with false information. The story states that Silver Cross is among 49 Illinois hospitals and clinics that may have received recalled products from a Massachusetts pharmacy (NECC) linked to a multi-state outbreak of fungal meningitis, according to a list provided by the pharmacy and posted on the Food and Drug Administration website.

The FDA just announced it has found some technical problems with the list and the data are incorrect. FDA is working to correct the list and will re-post when sure it is accurate at http://www.fda.gov/Drugs/DrugSafety/FungalMeningitis/default.htm

Rest assured, Silver Cross Hospital has reviewed receipt of all drugs and we have NOT purchased or received any medications produced by NECC (New England Compounding Pharmacy) that may have been linked to the fungal meningitis outbreak.
