Not So Great Pumpkin Sign: Suit Says Woman Tripped Over Sign

A woman claims she was left disfigured and disabled when she tripped over a sign attached to a bin of pumpkins at the New Lenox Walmart.

A Joliet woman claiming she tripped over a sign improperly secured to a bin of pumpkins is suing corporate behemoth Walmart.

The woman, Rita Dorris, is also suing the New Lenox Walmart and store manager Dan Ranachowski.

The lawsuit filed in Will County court said that in October 2011, Dorris tripped on a metal sign attached to a pumpkin bin.

Not only was the sign "improperly secured," it was not "at a height sufficient for customers to see" and the Walmart workers who put it there "should have known that customers' attention would be diverted by the pumpkins in the bin," the suit said.

Dorris suffered "disfigurement," the lawsuit said, not to mention medical expenses, pain and suffering, disability, and the "loss of a normal life, past and future."
