Metra Delays, Cancels Rock Island Trains

A disabled freight train in Joliet has caused early-morning delays there and at the New Lenox Metra station.

Multiple inbound trains from Joliet will not operate today after a disabled freight train in Joliet delayed Metra departures out of New Lenox and other south suburbs early Tuesday morning.

According to Metra's website, inbound train service from Joliet has been restored but will continue to cause delays.

  • Train 412, scheduled to depart Joliet at 7:02 a.m and arrive Chicago at 8:14 a.m., will not operate today due to earlier delays.
  • Train 410, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 7:57 a.m., is operating 45 to 50 minutes behind schedule. This train is expressing from Joliet to Blue Island.
  • Train 414, scheduled to depart Joliet at 7:17 a.m. and arrive Chicago at 8:24 a.m., and train 503, scheduled to depart Chicago at 7:50 a.m. and arrive Joliet at 9:10 a.m., will not operate today due to earlier delays. 
  • Train 408, scheduled to depart Joliet at 6:29 a.m. and arrive Chicago at 7:42 a.m., is currently on the move operating more than an hour behind schedule.
  • Train 416, scheduled to depart Joliet at 7:37 a.m. and arrive Chicago at 8:52 a.m., is on the move operating 22 to 25 minutes behind schedule.  This train will not be making a station stop at Gresham this morning. The next inbound train to accommodate passengers at Gresham will be the extra equipment train.
