LA Fitness Eyes New Lenox Location

The fitness facility would be located at an intersection with a Target and Lowe's nearby.

New Lenox residents might soon have another option for staying fit, if officials decide to move forward with a special use permit for a site development that will include an LA Fitness facility.

Village board members this week considered an ordinance that would grant the permit for preliminary and final planned unit development for an area near U.S. Route 30 and Garfield Avenue.

Developer InSite Real Estate LLC would like to open the 35,000-square-foot gym in the development that will ultimately house three businesses. LA Fitness is the only current proposal for a portion of the space, said Robin Ellis, assistant village administrator and community development director.  Neighboring businesses would most likely be restaurants or retail shops.

The special use permit had its first reading at the village board Monday and board members are scheduled to continue discussing it at the March 24 meeting, Ellis said. The proposal has already been heard by the Planning Commission, which recommends its approval by the board.

Construction would be expected to begin in spring, with the fitness facility opening by the end of the year, Ellis said.
