Job Applications Being Accepted at Food Store

A job fair is being held this week to find employees for the new Tony's Finer Foods that's opening on Route 59.

If you were hoping to land a job at the soon-to-open Tony's Finer Foods, plan on filling out a job application Wednesday.

A fair will to hire employees was held Tuesday and will be again from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the 2300 S. Route 59 store.

According to a notice on the company's Web site, they are looking to fill all in-store positions and will be conducting interviews. Resumes can be presented but are not required.

The business is going in where the Strack & Van Til store used to be. The Joliet location -- which has a Plainfield mailing address -- will be the ninth in the Itasca-based chain of food stores in the Chicago and suburban Chicago market.

No opening date has been publicly announced, but Director of Human Resources Jim Marnos said in October that it would be before the end of the year.

I don't but since I'm calling about the number of jobs available, I'll ask about that as well.

Here are the answers to the questions asked by readers about the new store: 1) They expect to hire about 200 people, most of whom will be part-time employees; 2) If you weren't able to make it to the job fair, you can apply online. Here's a link to their application: tonysfinerfood.com/employment-form/. The fair drew 700 people in its first day, and probably about 200 more just in the first hour of the second day. I'll be posting a story later this evening, so check back for more details.
