JH Sweis Catering Adds Zesty Menu for Banquets at the American Legion

JH Sweis Catering brings 25 years of experience to the American Legion, while also catering corporate events, weddings and more.

Jan—she's the "J"—and Hayle—he's the "H"—are the main ingredients in JH Sweis Catering. Together the two have taken their 25 years of experience in the food industry and moved it into the newly remodeled Tom E. Hartung American Legion Post 1977, 14414 Ford Drive.

They're the new in-house caterer for banquets held at the American Legion. They took an empty space and created a kitchen where dishes like Thai Green Curry Spoons (a grilled chicken dish served with bamboo shoots laced with coconut green curry sauce), custom pasta dinners and mini Caesar salad bites are prepared right along with a rib eye steak sandwich, a juicy hamburger and exquisite sweet trays.

In other words, whether you're in the mood for an elegant entrée or a hearty meal, there is nothing ordinary about JH Sweis Catering.

"We were in Mokena along 191st Street for about seven years," she said, but when the American Legion completely remodeled their facility on Ford Drive at Cedar Road, it got their taste buds tingling.

It gave the pair an opportunity to be the in-house caterer, working from a state-of-the-art kitchen. There's plenty of space to finesse the kind of meals that business events, class reunions, fund raising events and wedding receptions deserve.

Speaking of the American Legion, she said, "It's a real nice marriage; a match made in heaven."

The kitchen features a wall-lined with sinks, counter space galore and plenty of ovens. The company's Executive Chef Sasha can spread out while he creates his works of art, while Jan and Hayle prepare their own menu of "upscale food without the upscale price."

The company opened in September at the American Legion and already they're about to re-open the Legion's Canteen—a lunchtime spot, serving hamburgers and Hayle's special rib eye steak sandwich along with a mainstay of chicken and dumpling soup and chili. The average luncheon meal goes for about $7. The Canteen is expected to open by the end of the month, she said.

And finally, the two just signed on with "The Knot," a wedding site where couples look for advice and insights about everything from wedding invitations to wedding receptions.

The firm holds membership in the New Lenox Chamber of Commerce, and they're looking to hire experienced staff, including a souse chef as well as prep and line cooks.
