Frankfort Mulling Options to Replace Dominick's

Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland said the village has plenty of grocery store companies in its sites but is not tied to a food-seller.

Don't feel like you're losing a Dominick's. Think of it as gaining a Whole Foods. Or maybe a Potash Bros., a Treasure Island Foods, possibly a Strack & Van Til.

Any of those grocers may move in and replace the 19965 S. LaGrange Road Dominick's when the clock strikes midnight on the supermarket chain in the Chicago region at the end of next month, said Frankfort Mayor Jim Holland.

"We continue to look forward to a new tenant in the Dominick's building," Holland said.

Frankfort is already full of grocery stores, with Mariano's Fresh Market, Jewel, Walt's and Aldi in town. But Mayor Holland said the section of the village near the Dominick's could use a replacement supermarket.

"It's serving a need there," he said, pointing out that, "Grocery stores tend to serve people close to the store."

Another business, La Bella Uniforms, recently opened near the Dominick's, but the mayor feels a food store is important to that part of Frankfort.

"There's a surprising number of grocery stores in the Chicago area," Holland said. "We think it's an excellent location for a grocery."

Even with all the prospective supermarkets that might move in, Holland said the village is open to other businesses as well.

Holland said the building is a "modern store. There's excellent parking. It serves some fairly dense locations."
