WATCH: L-W Central Student Writes Song for Tommy Schuman

Lincoln-Way Central student Makena Koszela wrote a song in honor of Tommy Schuman, the 18-year-old student who died last month. Catch the video here.

Facing the tragedy of Lincoln-Way Central senior Tommy Schuman's sudden death, the community responded in a number of powerful ways. 

Students wore blue to school the week after he died, calling it "Blue for Schu." His baseball teammates sported Schuman's No. 19 in their first game back. And local artist Makena Koszela wrote a song in his honor.

Schuman, 18, . The beloved captain of the Knights baseball and golf teams was mourned during services by at least 6,000 people.

The song, titled "We Won't Blink," talks about missing someone who was obviously very special to many people.

"He was an outstanding 18 year old that went to my high school and was loved by everyone who knew him," Koszela said in the description of her YouTube video. "God called him home way too soon and he will be missed by countless amounts of people. Rest in peace Tommy! Only the good die young." 

The incredibly talented Koszela sings, "You left footsteps in so many lives. It was too soon you left this world behind. We know you're up there hearing angels sing."
