I originally read this children’s picture book because of the strange title.  How pleasantly surprised I was to find the fun story and great message within.

The story takes place as a child is being tucked into bed and his mother says, “I love you, my wonderful child.”   The little boy then questions, “What if I were a big scary ape?” or “a super smelly skunk?” or a “terrible meat-eating dinosaur?” and many more. Would she love him even then?  His mother responds each time that yes, she would always love him and take care of him.

I really enjoyed this cute story conveying the message that parental love is unconditional and the big, colorful illustrations by Cyd Moore depicting his many “what ifs.”  This is a bedtime story that will become one of your child’s favorites, and probably yours, too.

For a baby-appropriate, shortened version,  I Love You, Stinky Face is also available as a boardbook.
