Read: 'Are You There, Vodka?' by Chelsea Handler

Every week, New Lenox Public Library employees recommend items to check out the next time you stop in.

Editor's note: Every week, staff at the will suggest one book, DVD or other item to check out from the library.

  • Type: Book
  • Title: Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea
  • Author: Chelsea Handler

This is not a read for the faint of heart. Anyone familiar with Chelsea Handler knows her language can get a bit risqué as can some of the escapades she shares.

However, it is a great frivolous book, most probably best for women of a “certain age,” or women who are fairly adventurous and outspoken themselves and need a good laugh. Some of the situations she finds herself in are quite humorous and she does a good job of making the reader squirm, feeling as though you are right there with her.

It's also the kind of book you can leave for a week and go back to and not feel like you’ve forgotten anything important because it's filled with lighthearted, sometimes hilarious adventures. This book is recommended if you need a good laugh and are prepared for a bit of off color humor.

Handler has several books, all of which are generally checked out, so you may have to put a hold on them, but that speaks to the popularity of her works.
