Through Oct. 31: Holiday Massacre Haunted House

The Frankfort Jaycees hold their annual haunted house again this season. 

  • Where/when: Harlem Crossings shopping center, 19800 S. Harlem Ave., Frankfort. From 7 to 10:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Halloween. Also open Sunday, Oct. 30, and Halloween, with a special children's matinee from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 30.

Through Oct. 31: Creepy Hallow Halloween Fun Park

A new addition to Frankfort's Halloween scene this year. This haunted park includes corn mazes, hayrides, a petting zoo and, of course, the Blood Shed Haunted House and Hollywood Horror Hayride. 

  • Where/when: 24405 S. LaGrange Road, Frankfort. From 6 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and from 6 to 10 p.m. Sundays. Later hours during Halloween week. The fun park is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays (the carnival rides stay open during the night).
  • Price: The fun park costs $12 for adults and kids 11 and older; $10 for kids 3 to 10; free for kids younger than 3. The Blood Shed Haunted House is $16, and the Hollywood Horror Hayride is $12. A combo ticket runs $26.

Oct. 14-15: 30th Annual Halloween Hollow

includes a carnival, food vendors, Haunted Trail, Treat Barn, Scarecrow Laboratory, hayrides, horse rides, face painting, pumpkin patch, carnival rides, petting zoo, free stage entertainment and more.

Oct. 18: Tales From Beyond

Grades four to eight can enjoy Michael Kett's stories that cross the X-Files with Alfred Hitchcock, Edgar Allen Poe and Ripleys Believe-It-Or-Not. Hear true stories about Lizzie Borden the Titanic and Naperville's most famous ghost. Refreshments will be served

Oct. 21: Monster Mash

Kids age 4-6 can wear their Halloween costume and play various themed games, including monster freeze tag. There will also be a Halloween story and monster music. Pizza, juice and treat bags provided.

Oct. 21: Halloween Haunting 

creates a fun Halloween happening for kids with a haunted house, inflatables, games, hayrides and other activities. Kids wearing costumes get $1 off their wristband price.

Oct. 21-22: Halloween House Decorating Contest Judging

It's free to register with by Oct. 17 for this yearly contest. Judging will take place between 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 and 22 and is based on creativity, originality, design and layout. Contestants do not need to be present during judging.

Oct. 22: Pumpkin Decorating Contest

Kids through grade 6 may enter their decorated pumpkin into a contest at the French Market. There will be three age groups, and each winner will get tickets to a nearby pumpkin farm. Please and bring it by 10 a.m. to be entered.

  • Where/when: 10 a.m. entry with noon judging on Saturday, Oct. 22 at the New Lenox .

Oct. 22: Spooktacular Saturday

From 6 to 7 p.m., there will be a costume contest and trick or treating at The Oaks Recreation Center in Mokena. At 7:15 p.m., hunker down for a showing of Casper on the big screen. All kids in attendence get popcorn. The "Best in Show" costume contest winner will receive an Odyssey Fun World birthday party package ($150 value) and a gift from Noah’s Ark Workshop.

Oct. 25: Visiting the Beyond with Curt Strutz

Carl Strutz has visited haunted battlefields, deserted asylums, and known haunted residences around the U.S. Photos, video, and testimonies will be reviewed, as well as the history behind each location. Strutz is a cast member of the TV show Paranormal Generation, which can be seen on Illinois' ARTV channel and the MyParaTV website

Oct. 26: Senior Halloween Party

Frankfort Township holds its annual senior Haloween Party, which includes dinner and a costume contest with prizes.

Oct. 27: TNT Paranormal Investigators

A team of paranormal research investigators will discuss methods used to find answers and investigate evidence of any alleged cases of paranormal or unexplained activity.

The Lincoln-Way Central Student Council is offering the second annual Halloween Knight, a special indoor Trick or Treating Halloween Fun Fair for preschool through fifth-graders and their parents.

Oct. 31: Spooky Story Telling and E.F. Bucko Halloween Parade

will hold Spooky Story Telling just before the E.F. Bucko Halloween Parade, which attracts a bevy of costumed kids winding through downtown, on the hunt for candy.

  • Where/when: Spooky Story Telling begins at 3:45 p.m. at Breidert Green, Frankfort. The parade starts at 4 p.m. from the Green.

Oct. 31: Spooky Little Story Time

Start Halloween off with some scares thanks to Spooky Little Story Time at Frankfort Public Library. Kids ages 2 to 5 can wear costumes and go trick-or-treating in the library after the event.
