Enjoy 'Spirits with the Spirits' at Joliet's Rialto Theatre

Try your hand at ghost hunting at the downtown Joliet institution.

It's the "Jewel of Joliet," known for its breathtaking architecture and as a venue for art, music and drama.

And if you believe the stories, the 87-year-old Rialto Square Theatre is also a paranormal hot spot, with visitors and staff reporting brushes with the other side, including apparitions of a young boy and a woman in a wedding dress. The famously haunted theater is popular with local paranormal investigators and has also made an appearance on SyFy's "Ghost Hunters."

This week, you can have a cocktail while communing with ghosts as part of a "Spirits with the Spirits" event, set for 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday at the theater, 15 E. Van Buren St.

Tickets are $15 each, and a maximum of 45 will be sold. The event will include a cash bar, and cameras are welcome.

To buy tickets, call 815-726-6600.

Public, private investigations

For more than a year, the haunted venue has also offered private paranormal investigations. Groups of up to 10 people can pay $400 for four hours to conduct their own investigation of the theater accompanied by a Rialto representative. Tours can be booked by calling Trish Stoner at 815-726-7171, ext. 210. Groups must provide proof of liability insurance at the time of booking.

For those who aren't part of a paranormal investigation group but would like to try out ghost hunting at the theater, public investigations are also slated for 6 to 11 p.m. on Feb. 26 and March 28.

The tours are led by experienced paranormal investigators and cost $50 per person. For tickets call the box office at 815-726-6600.
