The National Weather Service has broadcast a winter weather advisory for New Lenox and the surrounding region.

The advisory sent out Tuesday afternoon is to remain in effect until 6 p.m. New Year's Day.

According to the National Weather Service, a "period of steadier snow is expected this evening into the early part of the overnight hours followed by somewhat of a lull late tonight into Wednesday morning. Snow will increase in intensity again Wednesday morning and continue Wednesday afternoon before ending early wednesday evening."

The National Weather Service predicted four to eight inches of snow to fall through Wednesday afternoon and warned that "isolated higher totals are possible."
