Route 30 Construction Updates: Schoolhouse Road Closes June 3

Route 30 construction improvements continue to keep traffic crawling between Williams Street and Schoolhouse Road.

One of the planned projects calls for the closure of Schoolhouse Road southbound, but Village Engineer Will Nash made sure it would be delayed until after graduation ceremonies at Lincoln-Way Central High School on May 31.

On June 3, the contractor will be closing the south side of the intersection of Schoolhouse Road at Route 30. Traffic will still be able to get through the intersection, but will not be able to access Schoolhouse Road heading south. The entrances to the businesses adjacent to the intersection will remain open through construction.

Nash said that during this construction there will be one lane in each direction and a left turn lane to head northbound on Schoolhouse Road. Traffic will be shifted to the north side of the road from just west of the high school to just east of Schoolhouse Road near Portillo’s Restaurant, 2306 E. Lincoln Highway,

The detour route will take traffic to Joliet Highway and Route 30 or Marley Road and Route 30. Nash said this work at Schoolhouse and Route 30 should take approximately five weeks.

• Currently the outside lane of traffic in each direction is closed. There will be work ongoing in various locations along the length of the project for the next couple of months and this lane closure will allow the contractor to complete work along the outside lanes of the project. This work includes grading, bike path work, temporary pavement removal, curb and gutter work and other miscellaneous construction items.

Nash said the contractor has completed construction of the sound wall near Bluestone Bay and placement of the sound wall panels continues near the Wellington Townhomes.

  • Grading for bike path and sidewalk continues through New Lenox
  • Framing and placing sidewalk also continues through New Lenox
  • Construction of driveways continues between Walona Street and Lincolnway Drive
  • The contractor is working on traffic signal foundations at Joliet Highway and Marley Road.
  • The contractor is placing topsoil between Marley Road and Anderson Road. They will be using topsoil from the large pile in front of Lincoln-Way Central High School.
He added that the piles will start to get smaller but will not be totally gone until the summer.
