Restoration Crew Serves at Hickory Creek, Volunteers

New Lenox was alive with volunteers working on behalf of the community Saturday at the 7th Annual ShareFest.

A team of ShareFest 2013 volunteers worked Sept. 14 to clean up Hickory Creek Barrens Nature Preserve.

About 35 nature enthusiast spent the day raking away debris and cutting back shrubs. The work was hard and dirty, but the benefits for the community and the Will County Forest Preserve is worth it, said Allison Borecki, spokesperson.

The crew loaded 8-foot- tall stacks of debris into forest preserve pickup trucks. Some brought along their own equipment, including gas-powered weed walkers, saws and heavy duty rakes to clear overgrown areas along the path at the New Lenox preserve. Parking for the Hickory Creek Barrens Nature Preserve is at Hickory Creek Junction, 2759 E. Lincoln Highway.
