L-Way Central Girl is Fighting Cancer, Fundraiser

"Friends of Hope" is a fundraiser to assist with medical costs associated with cancer treatments for 16-year-old Hope Ceroy, a Lincoln-Way Central High School junior.

A Lincoln-Way Central junior is battling cancer. A silent auction and raffle, referred to as "Friends of Hope," is planned for Oct. 13 to help her parents with medical costs.

Hope Ceroy, 16, of Manhattan was diagnosed last year with osteoblastic osteosarcoma. According to family friend and benefit organizer Gena Sullivan, Ceroy is not able to attend school right now.

She's having a hard time with the illness as well as the chemotherapy. The teen was diagnosed after she began suffering pain in her leg. "Initially doctors thought she had fractured it," said Sullivan.

However, it turned out to be far worse. The cancer had metastasized to her lungs. "Hope has had 10 rounds of very aggressive chemotherapy and is getting ready for surgery to remove her fibula—the bone in her leg where the cancer originated. Hope can never play sports again," said Sullivan.

To date, each round of chemotherapy has cost $90,000, according to Sullivan. The fundraiser is scheduled from 1-6 p.m. Oct. 13 at Bourbon Street Restaurant, 3359 W. 115th St., Merrionette Park.

An Aerosmith tribute band, Rock This Way Chicago, will perform. A full buffet will be provided. Tickets are $30 for individuals and $50 for couples. The price is $10 for those under 21. Contact: Gena Sullivan at 708-309-6102
