Historical Society Dinner to Raise Funds for Preservation

A silent auction featuring donations from New Lenox businesses is slated too.

The New Lenox Area Historical Society invites friends and families to their “all you can eat” spaghetti dinner from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, at the Harry E. Anderson VFW Post 9545, 323 Old Hickory Road, New Lenox.

In addition to the delicious spaghetti dinner, including cakes provided by Fleckenstein Bakery,  there will be a silent auction featuring new items and gifts donated by local businesses and friends of the New Lenox Area Historical Society.

The theme this year is “Home of Proud Americans.” There will be a kids corner with games and face painting, and a coloring contest with “big cookie” rewards. A  display showing photos of the activities that take place with small children at Schmuhl School, along with books used in lower grades will be featured. Watch for the old lunchbox—filled with FREE Three Musketeers candy bars!

The dinner/auction is one of the key events the society sponsors to help raise funds for the preservation and restoration of Schmuhl School and ongoing student programs held at the school. Schmuhl is a “working school” where many New Lenox students spend time experiencing “A Day In The Life Of  A One-Room Schoolhouse”.

Tickets for the dinner are available at 205 W. Maple, New Lenox, and will be sold at the door. Adults are $10.00, children 10 and under, $5.00.  Under 3 years are free.  To reserve tickets, call 815-485-5576.  CARRY OUTS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE.
