Nearly 2 Million Pounds of Electronic Recyclables Collected

Recycling is going "gangbusters," says Marta Keane, Will County recycling program specialist.

Will County electronic recycling sites collected nearly 2 million pounds in the first part of 2013, greater than all of 2011.

Marta Keane, recycling program specialist with the Will County Land Use Resource Recovery and Energy Division, said, “Vintage Tech has reported collecting 1,927,521pounds from Jan. 1 to June 30. “We are going gangbusters on electronics as more people have learned that they are recyclable and they are banned from Illinois landfills!”

In 2012, 3,208,437 pounds were collected, according to a press release.  “This is all the more amazing when you consider we recycled 1,677,039 total in 2011,” said Larry Walsh, Will County executive.
