ERs Treat Older Adults for Fall-Related Injuries Every 15 Seconds

A free fall prevention program is available in October at Silver Cross Hospital.

According to the National Council on Aging, every 15 seconds an older adult is seen in an emergency room for a fall-related injury. To help reduce preventable falls, The Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Silver Cross is offering free Fall and Balance screenings in October.

Individuals who have been experiencing dizziness or vertigo, have had a history of falls, near falls, or simply a fear of falling are excellent candidates for a balance screening.

Appointments for free Fall and Balance screenings are available on Oct. 22 and Oct. 24 at Silver Cross Hospital-Pavilion A, 1890 Silver Cross Blvd., New Lenox. The screening includes blood pressure readings, balance assessment, recommendations referrals for treatment if needed. To schedule an appointment, call (815) 300-7110.
