Local singer, songwriter Mitch Alvarez will be playing at The Hub on February 8
at 7PM. This will be in support of his CD "Staring At The Moon". He will be
accompanied by fellow New Lenox musicians, Dave Bellah, Steve Ashum and Jason
Parks. Dave Bellah's band, un-named as of yet will open for Mitch. The CD was
recorded at Ashum and Parks Product Studio productrecording.com.
"Staring At The Moon" was
started in November 2010. "I recorded it one song at a time and though the rates
at Product are highly competitive I had to save up before I went in and that
gave me time to practice and be ready when we started tracking" states Mitch
Alvarez. Steve Ashum played keyboards and percussion, Dave played acoustic and
electric guitars, and Jason Parks did the drumming on most tracks. They all sang
background and harmony vocals. There were guest musicians including The Almost
Brothers Band whom Mitch plays bass with and Ivan Strunin on violin who sent in
his tracks over the internet from South Carolina. It can be heard at
mitchalvarezmusic.com and Spotify. It can be purchased on cdbaby.com, Itunes,
Amazon and Googleplay.
"I've been writing songs for a long time, and in fact one of the
song's "Don't Be Lonely" was written 30 years ago." Most were written in the
last 10 years and some as recent as last summer. "Meant To Be" was written for
my son Luke and his fiance Marisa. Their love story inspired me and I actually
sang it at their wedding in September." The songs are positive and encouraging
songs that cover a variety of styles like the rockabilly of "American Dream",
the island feel of "Gospel Of Love" and the country folk harmonies of "Friend To
Everyone". People who have heard the CD compare the sound to The Eagles, John
Denver and Sam Cooke.
Our concert on February 8th will be an all ages show. There is no
cover charge but the CD will be available for purchase. A CD signing will be
held as well as an opportunity to talk to the artisits and the owners of Product
Studio if you would like to book a recording session.

More About The Hub
The Hub, a teen-centric hangout, provides weekly concerts and entertainment for New Lenox youth, but is open to everyone. Its official name is the Lincolnway Community Youth Center, but community members affectionately call it The Hub. The non-profit organization aims to provide New Lenox teens with free, safe, recreational fun.
Both local artists and touring bands can be seen at The Hub, which also has video game rooms, billiards, ping pong, arcade games and non-acoholic refreshments. The main room is stacked with a sound system and a stage for that night's performance, and there are multiple side rooms to play video games, watch TV or just relax.
