Officers Receive Life Saver's Award from Fire District

The New Lenox Fire Protection District presented Life Saver Awards to a Bolingbrook Patrol Officer and a State Trooper Monday December 19th at the Board of Trustees meeting.

Bolingbrook Patrol Officer, Jill Regalado and State Trooper Sergeant Matt Swanson were recognized for their extraordinary heroic efforts on October 19th, 2011 when a vehicle on I355 went off the road.

Driving behind the vehicle was off duty Officer Regalado; she quickly pulled over and found the driver unresponsive, while another passerby called 911, Officer Regalado pulled the driver out and began to administer CPR.

State Trooper, Sergeant Swanson responded quickly from just up the road. Upon his arrival he grabbed his Automated External Defibrillator (AED) from his squad car and resuscitated the driver.  New Lenox Fire District personnel arrived and started advanced life support; having to resuscitate the driver two more times while enroute to the hospital. The driver survived the ordeal.

“If Officer Regalado and Sergeant Swanson did not go above and beyond the call of duty, the outcome could have had a tragic ending,” states Fire Chief Jon Mead.  “We felt these heroic efforts needed to be recognized.”
