New Lenox Girl Scouts learn about Maple Syrup Tapping

On February 18, over 180 local Girl Scouts went to Pilcher Park to learn about Maple Syrup tapping. They enjoyed an all you can eat pancake breakfast and got up close and personal with some resident snakes and turtles. The girls also went on a hike and listened for animals and saw how fungus and bacteria can turn a fallen tree back into dirt. For most of the girls, I think, their favorite part of the day was tasting what real maple syrup is like. They found out that what most people put on their pancakes is actually corn syrup. Through out the trip the girls could show their courage and confidence by answering questions and trying new things, which always helps builds strong character.
