The award-winning Lincoln-Way Central Marching Knights began their 2012 competitive season this past Saturday, September 15, with a solid performance at the Providence Catholic Marching Band Invitational in New Lenox.
Less than a half a point placed the Marching Knights in 2nd place in the Class AA category with a score of 68.15. Downers Grove South took 1st place with a 68.6 and Glenbard West scored a 60.5 to earn third place in class AA.
"The Marching Knights also received additional awards: Outstanding Musical Performance, Outstanding Visual Performance, Outstanding Auxiliary (color guard), and Outstanding Percussion," stated Eric Wellman, Lincoln-WayCentral Director of Bands. "This was a very solid start to our competitive season. It was wonderful to see the improvement made from the start of summer practice," added Wellman.
"The Marching Knights' new field show for the 2012 competition is entitled Awareness, which is based off of the different ribbons that symbolize various causes. We portray different colors and emotions on the field using the ribbon. Emotions as colors in the show piece are: loss, anger, reflection, and hope," noted Wellman.
The Marching Knights also perform their competitive show during half time at each home football game. Friday September 28th is the next home football game. It is homecoming and the band proudly invites all Marching Knight alumni to join them on the field for a pre-game show. Drum majors leading the band are Sarah Martin, Nick Kross, and Amanda Cowfer.
Area residents will have the opportunity to see the band perform in its competitive show at a Marching Band Showcase featuring all four Lincoln-Way High School marching bands on October 24 at Lincoln-Way West High School, 21701 S. Gougar Road in New Lenox. The event will begin at 7:00 p.m..
