Plot:

"German bounty hunter, Dr. King Schultz, buys a slave named Django and promises him his freedom once he has helped Schultz track down the criminals he is seeking.  But Django has a wife who was sold off years ago, and his partnership with Schultz may offer him a chance to find her.”

Thoughts:

If you love Quentin Tarantino, there’s no possible way you could dislike this movie. It’s Tarantino’s take on a Western movie that’s disguised as a buddy-cop action film, with a great soundtrack and incredible cinematography. But if you love Quentin, then you know what you’re in for: a brutal, bloody, hilarious movie with a great cast and an even greater director who’s not afraid to take ANY risks. The real scene-stealer in this movie is Christoph Waltz, who proved to us in Inglorious Basterds that he was born to be in Tarantino’s gang. Everything he did, everything he said was dripping with charisma and charm. With every move he made, I was completely captivated (I’d like to take this time for a shout out to my man, Jonah Hill, for his wonderful and hilarious cameo. It was a pleasure to see you in a Tarantino film). To me, there are two parts to this movie: The first half, which consists of meeting the characters, discovering the plot and moving it forward. And the second half, which consists of all the guns, blood, and torture you can handle. The movie should’ve ended when the first half did. In my opinion, it would’ve been a much better, more unique film because, personally, I believe the second half weakened the movie; it sort of felt like Tarantino threw it in because that’s his style, not necessarily because that’s how the movie should’ve ended. It was entertaining to watch, so I’m not exactly complaining it just felt very forced. I was a little thrown off by the editing at times (RIP Tarantino’s old editor, Sally Menke), especially during a few scenes that seem to have absolutely no meaning whatsoever in this film, but hey, it’s a Tarantino movie: You’re not going to get ALL of the answers. Django Unchained is a great revenge-film, with Tarantino at his best, despite what you’ve heard.

I know this movie is out of theaters now but when it comes out on DVD, I definitely say everyone should give it a try.

Warning:

(I feel like half the world is in love with this movie, and the other half is too afraid to see this movie) Django comes in at 165 minutes so if you’re not okay with long movies, I’d recommend you see something else. If you’re bringing children with you to the theater, I’d definitely recommend you see something else. If you’re not okay with blood or the repeated use of the n-word, I’d recommend you see something else. If you’re not into watching great cinema, I’d recommend you see something else.
