5 for Free, 5 for a Price: What to Check Out During Free Comic Book Day

The Amazing Fantasy Books and Comics stores in Tinley Park and Frankfort will be participating in Free Comic Book Day on Saturday. Patch pairs 5 free comics with 5 worth buying. Plus, take a look at some of the all-ages books.

When the first Free Comic Book Day was held in 2002, the long-awaited Spider-Man live-action movie premiered that same weekend. At the time, it was still a bit of a novelty that Hollywood was making popular, big-budget superhero films (X-Men was released the previous year), and the North American event was a way for comics publishers and retailers to share that spotlight they helped ignite. Watch Tennis Coach from PCHS and L-W Central on 'Millionaire' Thursday

Joe Dela Pena will be sitting in the hot seat on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" at 4 p.m. Thursday on WGN.

Joe Dela Pena believes anyone can handle being a contestant on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire." "You just need some general knowledge, and to stay abreast on current topics," Dela Pena said. "If you don’t put yourself out there you’ll never know if you can do it." The Orland Park resident, who coaches tennis at Providence Catholic High School and Lincoln-Way Central in New Lenox, coaches the speech team at Moraine Valley Community College and works as a youth tennis instructor, earned $17,000 after answering four questions correctly on the game show Wednesday.  Dela Pena returns to the show 4 p.m. Thursday on WGN to see if he can get closer to the million dollar grand prize. Locally Crafted Glass Art Piece Honors Silver Cross Donors

Homer Glen glass artist Sheri Law created the piece that now adorns the main lobby of Silver Cross Hospital.

Silver Cross Hospital recently unveiled a major artistic addition to their main lobby. The panoramic scene of sweeping leaves skillfully crafted of custom cut glass was created by local artist Sheri Law of Sheri Law Art Glass Ltd. in Homer Glen. The hospital commissioned Law to make the piece in honor of their donors. “Since the donor wall was going to be displayed in such a visible area of the hospital, we were particular on choosing an artist with rare skills who could uniquely capture our vision – and Sheri’s exceptional talents made her the perfect choice,” Larry Johnson, vice president of the foundation at Silver Cross Hospital said. “Her ability to incorporate components of nature and motion through windswept leaves using our …

Tickets for the 2013 Triple Play Concer Series Going Fast

Mayor Tim Baldermann reports that tickets are expected to be sold out by noon April 23.

Tickets for the 2013 Triple Play Concert Series went on sale April 1, and there's not many left. Mayor Tim Baldermann said a total of 5,000 tickets were available, and the village has sold more than 4,600 tickets so far. He expects they'll be completely sold out by noon on Thursday, April 23. L-W Central's Spring Musical is 'Anything Goes'

Cole Porter's classic "Anything Goes" opens April 25 at Lincoln-Way Central Fine Arts Center.

The Lincoln-Way Central High School Music Department cast of its 2013 spring musical, "Anything Goes" is preparing for their opening night performance on April 25. The popular musical continues April 26-27. The spring musical performances begin at 7 p.m. at the LWC Fine Arts Center. Advance tickets can be reserved by calling 815-462-2300. "Anything Goes" is a classic from musical theater's golden age of the 1940s. The story involves comedy, intrigue, mischief, and mistaken identity on a luxury cruise liner sailing from New York to London. A total of 41 student are in the cast. Nearly 50 percent of 2013 Triple Play Concert Tickets Sold in 5 Days

Village staff was busy in the first week since the 2013 Triple Play Concert Series tickets went on sale.

It looks like residents of New Lenox are excited about the upcoming Triple Play Concert Series. In the first five days, since tickets went on sale, already they've sold close to 2,400, village officials report.  The headlining bands for the annual Triple Play Concert Series this year are Bad Company, Rick Springfield and Foreigner.   Tickets can by purchased at Village Hall for $50 to residents in the 60451 zip code through May 10. The $50 price has not changed. It buys you one pass that provides entrance to all three shows.
