So how well were your streets plowed? Vote in our poll below.
The snow started falling Thursday morning and just. wouldn't. stop. Not until early Friday morning.
"It's always tough when it doesn't stop snowing," Public Works Supt. Ken Brozovich said. "That's when we really just focus on the main arterial roads. But I think for our first time out this year everything went great."
Some readers on Facebook and Twitter weren't as sure:
- "What plowing??? My street doesnt look like it's been plowed yet," on reader said Friday afternoon.
- "My street was plowed twice already! I was actually impressed," another reader responded.
One thing is certain, at least we were better than Manhattan, according to one tweet: @John_J_Sarhage tweeted "New lenox roads > manhattan roads x100."
Twenty-two trucks plowed the streets from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Thursday, and they started up again at 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
This was obviously nowhere near as bad as last February's blizzard. Eight inches of snow in January? I think we can handle it.
Still, some drivers called New Lenox police for help. Sgt. Hilary Davis said there were about five minor accidents Thursday, though none involved injuries or traffic delays.
"They're doing a pretty good job keeping the streets clean," Davis said.
I drove around town Thursday morning, Thursday night and again Friday morning. The major roads like Route 30 and Cedar were plowed early Thursday, but by the evening the non-stop snow had them covered again, making for a tough drive. By Friday morning, the major roads were completely clear, though many side streets still needed work.
When was your street plowed?

The people plowing the roads and streets in New Lenox always do an outstanding job and this last snow storm was no exception. The main roads were good and they did their best on side streets even though it only meant one or two passes for most of the day. Kudos to the men with their snow plows. Great job!!!

I have never complained about the Streets Dept. of New Lenox, and I think they did an OK job this time, but honestly, they had things cleared better and faster in last years blizzard. We received an automated call on Thursday asking us to be patient, it could take a couple days ...... couple days? For 8 inches of snow? My first thought was that they must have a lot of people on vacation. I was in New Lenox, Joliet and Frankfort on Thursday and the New Lenox roads were the worst of the three, but by Friday morning at 7am when I left home, everything was cleared really well, even the side streets. Now if I could only figure out a way from keeping the Village plows from dumping 12+ inches of snow at the end of my driveway, that would be outstanding!
