VIDEO: Low-Flying Plane Soars Over New Lenox
A crop duster was out near Laraway and Cedar roads Friday, alarming some drivers and capturing the attention of others who stopped to get photos.
A low-flying crop duster alarmed some drivers and amused others, getting some to stop to take photos out near Cedar and Laraway roads in New Lenox on Friday.
The plane was soaring around the farmland near that intersection, as well as further east near Spencer and Laraway roads, at about noon.
Thank you to Tony Z. Kroll of Century 21 Pride Realty for sharing the video!
A couple of readers on Facebook said they were worried when they saw the planes crossing Laraway Road. (Like New Lenox Patch on Facebook to join the conversation.)
- "I was at the Jewel and was scared out of my mind."
- "I thought it was crashing into the field. I about had a heart attack!"

Awesome video!! I was leaving Tucker's when I first saw the plane disappear behind the Calistoga buildings and I was waiting to see a ball of fire, thought for sure the plane was going to crash. As I turned on to Laraway heading West, I saw the plane and was relieved it was still in the air, then noticed it make another low pass but this time I could see the dust being released. Whoever was flying that plane is a very talented pilot or used to fly stunt planes, he put on a great show!!

I just up loaded three photos of this corp duster I took with my camera, yesterday from the intersection of Delaney and Nelson road, onto your community site here today. This isn't the first time he has "dusted". Last year about this time he was doing the same thing. I did some research and I believe the model plane he is using is called a Air Tractor, specifically made for this kind of use. This is the first year I was able to get the kind of photos I really wanted to get. Its amazing to watch him fly only 6 feet above the ground, skimming the top of the corn and missing (hopefully) the telephone wires and lightpoles. Takes a real amount of talent and courage to do what he does. And yes, he did create quite the traffic jam at times....we had our own air show, almost as good as Oskosh's with a front row seat....lol.

Ha, grew up in a rural farming town in Wisconsin, so this is pretty common. Kind of comical to read some of the people's reactions about being scared out of their minds.

He comes by every year. When the kids were little I used to make the kids go in the house while he was crop-dusting. I really don't like the idea of breathing in the small particles. But that is what happens when you have farm fields across the street.
