As is typical for those who live in the community dubbed "The Home of Proud of Americans," New Lenox residents came out for the annual Veterans Day Memorial Celebration.

At the 11th hour, on Nov. 11, about 60 New Lenox residents—young and old—gathered at the Village Commons on Veterans Parkway to honor the veterans and active-duty military personnel who serve to secure our freedom.

In the same manner as elected officials and representatives from VFWs and American Legions across the nation, New Lenox had its share of brief tributes. Mayor Tim Baldermann, Rep. Renee Kosel and veteran representatives reminded those gathered that the freedom Americans enjoy is largely due to the sacrifices of veterans and the active-duty military.

As the red, white and blue flag flapped proudly in the sky on a breezy November morning, a formal military salute was offered. Representatives from the Tom E. Hartung American Legion Post 1977 and the VFW were on-hand for the celebration.

It was a time for camaraderie, solidarity, reflection and gratitude. It was what one would refer to as a "Norman Rockwell-style," All-American community gathering.

With all due respect to the Boy Scouts, it was the Cadets of New Life Church in New Lenox who attended and are pictured not the boy scouts.
