South Suburban DUI Arrests, Aug. 26
One person tried switching seats in front of police. Another drove into a forest preserve. All in a night's work in this week's roundup of Southland drunken driving arrests.
Aug. 20: Richard J. Macander, 23, of the 63000 block of Boca Rio Drive in Oak Forest, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, driving an uninsured motor vehicle and speeding, according to a report. A vehicle driven by Macander was stooped at about 4:06 a.m. at 12400 S. Harlem Ave. Macander was given a breath test and was unable to provide proof of car insurance.
Aug. 19: Lynn A. Grenier, 41, of the 500 block of Mihelich Lane in Lockport, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, improper lane use and driving without headlights, according to a report. Police stopped a vehicle at around 3:44 a.m. at 12100 S. Ridge. that was driving without headlights on. The driver took sobriety tests and was then arrested.
Aug. 18: Stacy L. Krisik, 27, of the 6200 block of South Massasoit Avenue in Chicago, was charged with possession of less than 2.5 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding, according to a report. Police said she was driving a car at about 3:18 a.m. at 12200 S. Harlem Ave. that was speeding. She took sobriety test and was subsequently arrested.
Aug. 18: Sarah M. Blaylock, 23, of the 17000 block of Creekside Avenue in Tinley Park was charged with driving under the influence and speeding more than 30 mph. over the limit, according to police. Police conducted a traffic stop on the car Blaylock was reportedly driving. She took sobriety tests and was then arrested.
Aug. 17: Leslie D. Sonne, 35, of the 10300 block of Ridgeland Avenue in Chicago Ridge was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving with expired registration, according to a report. Her vehicle was stopped by police at about 2:36 a.m. at 12700 S. Harlem Ave. Police said she admitted to drinking. She was arrested and booked.
Aug. 14: Orlaith M. Ruane, 20, of 11400 block of Woodlawn in Lemont, was charged with obstructing a police officer, underage drinking, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and improper lighting. Police stopped a vehicle at about 2:14 a.m. at 13100 S. Harlem Ave. that was driving with only one headlight. An officer said he saw the driver try to switch seats with a passenger, according to a report. The driver, Ruane, was unable to provide a driver's license and was arrested.
Aug. 16: Eric C. Riley, 27, of the 500 block of West Farmview Road in University Park, was charged with two counts of driving under the influence, speeding and failing to signal when required. Police stopped Riley’s vehicle at about 2 a.m. at 12500 S. Harlem Ave. for speeding and failing to signal before changing a lane, according to a report. An officer said he believed Riley had bloodshot eyes. He also could smell alcohol. Riley failed sobriety tests and blew over the legal limit, police said. He was arrested and booked.
Aug. 13: Krystyna Prusak, 48, of 10300 block of Broadmoor Drive in Palos Hills, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol. Police were looking into a suspicious vehicle at about 7:27 p.m. in the 12900 block of Sycamore Lane, according to a report. After investigating the driver, Prusak was arrested and booked.
Aug. 20: Djuan K. Mays, of the 700 block of West 82nd Street in Chicago, was charged with improper lane usage, violating center median laws, driving under the influence and driving under the influence with a blood-alcohol content greater than 0.08. Police said he pulled alongside a squad car early Monday and asked for directions before driving on erratically. The man began honking at an officer driving in front of him in the 17300 block of Oak Park Avenue in Tinley Park around 1:14 a.m., according to the report. Read more on Tinley Park Patch.
Aug. 6: Dennis P. Connors, 52, of the 8800 block of West 172nd Street in Tinley Park, was arrested around 1 a.m. in the 18300 block of South Harlem Avenue.Police said they got word from a witness that Connors was driving erratically, striking curbs on Harlem Avenue and speeding. He reportedly failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol and operating an uninsured motor vehicle
Aug. 17: Brien L Jones, 24, of the 4000 block of W. Midlothian Turn Pike in Robbins, was cited for DUI, DUI of .213 and violation of vehicle impound order. Jones was arrested after officers responded to a report of a car hitting cars and trying to run people down in the parking lot of the Oak Forest Plaza, 4142 W. 167th Street at 2:09 a.m. When police asked Jones about the night, he said he did not remember hitting any other cars or people. He told officers he remembered leaving the bar and that was it. He submitted to field sobriety tests, which he failed, according to reports.
Aug. 21: Philipe Escalona, 28, of 5000 block of W. 159th Street in Oak Forest, was charged damage to highway structures, open alcohol, no insurance, no driver's license and DUI following a single car accident that left one person seriously injured and another in the drunk tank. Police said the car ran into the forest preserve along the street. A passenger in the backseat of the car was seriously injured and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center.
Aug. 16: Andre White, 35, of Blue Island, was charged with driving under the influence and driving without proof of insurance or a driver's license. At 1:51 a.m. he was stopped for swerving at 95th Street and St. Louis Avenue, police said. There was an open bottle of vodka in the car and he failed a field sobriety tests, police said.
Aug. 15: Terry Matthews, 66, of the 9700 block of Wentworth in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence and cited for failure to give information after an accident. Matthews drove into the fence of Evergreen Cemetery and was unable to even stand after exiting his car, police said. The report says when asked if he had anything to drink he responded, "I might have." He was not able to complete the breath test, police said.
Aug. 14: Garrett J. Hendron, 29, of the 200 block of W. Elmwood Drive, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after police stopped him near the intersection of Joe Orr Road and Normal Avenue for speeding, according to the report. Asked to present his driver's license and proof of insurance, Hendron had a difficult time finding them, police said. Hendron told police he had a few drinks at the Tender Trap before driving. He took field sobriety tests and was taken into custody. Hendron was also charged with speeding and having a blood alcohol content of .08 or more according to the report.
Aug. 19: Ruben Cortez, 22, of 1225 Barbara Ln in Chicago Heights was charged with DUI, speeding and operating an uninsured vehicle just before 2:45 a.m. Police say they initially pulled Cortez over after he was observed traveling 41 mph in a 25 mph zone while driving southbound on the 18100 block of Dixie Highway. According to the report, Cortez failed both of the two field sobriety tests he was issued.
Aug. 9: Police pulled over a car for driving 38 mph in a 20 mph zone near 157th Street and 80th Avenue around 3:20 a.m. The officer smelled alcohol on the driver’s breath and he failed field sobriety tests, police said. Kevin M. Rettke, 19, of the 15700 block of Deerfield Court in Orland Park, was charged with driving under the influence and speeding.
